Mediterranean Martil, Morocco, Saturday, 20 December 2008 3:14pm

I'm sitting on the shore of the Mediterranean. It's a different color than I had imagined, a mix of gold and green here near land. Near the horizon it deepens into a rich blue-green, but that's a long way off.

There's almost nobody here on the beach in Martil. It's a clear day, with a cool breeze, but it's not chilly out. I would expect to see more people at Ocean Beach.

Martil seems to have a thing for Florida. Tetouan has Cafe Dallas and Restaurant Detroit, but Martil has Salon de the Orlando, Restaurant Miami, and the Miami hairstylist's shop. There are a lot of hairstylists here. Elsewhere in Morocco, there are a surprising number of "Chirurgeon Dentiste" signs up. They're here too, but there seem to be even more hairstylists. Martil must be a particularly well coiffed town.
