Back to San Jose San Jose, Costa Rica, Friday, 24 January 2014 9:22pm

For our last full day in Costa Rica, we decided to spend a little more time with the flora and fauna before heading back to the city. We stopped in at a botanical garden and wildlife refuge, where we got to see lots of tropical plants (and try "miracle berries"!) and got close looks at some of the animals we've seen at a distance in the wild. In addition to capuchin and howler monkeys and coatis, the refuge had some kinkajous, a jaguarundi, and a pair of peccaries. They were in the process of releasing an orphaned sloth while we were there.

We headed north, stopping at an excellent buffet-style Caribbean Costa Rican restaurant in Puerto Limón, and then drove the rest of the way back to San Jose. The only downside was the heavy traffic once we were back in the city.

After dropping off the rental car and taking a taxi back into town, we had an amazing meal at a very innovative cafe/art gallery, including the first craft beers that we've seen in Costa Rica. A good note to end the trip on.
