Miami Miami, FL, Tuesday, 23 October 2012 8:33pm

I did a bit of Miami sightseeing today. I started off with a visit to Little Havana, and had a Cuban Sandwich and a milkshake. Pretty tasty. Perhaps someday I'll be able to have them in Havana for real.

Afterwards I rode over to Miami Beach and did a walking tour of the Art Deco district. The ride from Little Havana to Miami Beach has some great views of the Miami of movies: the bridges that drugrunners ride their powerboats under, the mirrored skyscrapers, and the fanciful architecture. Art Deco is not my favorite style, and I don't generally care for pastels, but I thought the buildings worked in their environment. I took a short stroll on the beach itself as well.

Next, I headed to the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, which is a large, beautiful collection of plants. My favorites were the bizarre, spiky plants from Madagascar. Definitely worth a visit.
