Getting There - Aneel's Travelogue

To New Orleans New Orleans, LA, Thursday, 11 October 2012 10:54pm

I started off today with some tasty french toast with berry compote at a trendy little place in Lafayette, and then set off towards New Orleans.

My only stop for the day was at Oak Alley Plantation. It was an antebellum sugarcane plantation, with a plantation house built at the end of a double row of beautiful oak trees. The house tour was pretty interesting, but I think the real draw is still those oak trees. Once upon a time, you could see the Mississippi at the end of the alley, but the levee is now tall enough that you can't see over it from the house. In fact, despite spending a good part of the afternoon riding alongside the river, I never saw it.

I'm spending the next few days at the house of the parents of my friend Dave (who you remember from Austin and Beijing), visiting New Orleans. We watched the VP debate together over popcorn and Abitas.
